Olympic National Park Road Trip, July 2022 - Sol Duc and Silver Lake Way

Thursday, July 7, 2022, we began the drive to Washington. That evening, we hit up a popular ice cream place in Eugene, Oregon for an early birthday treat for Tiny, as we anticipated backpacking the next night.

I asked Tiny what she gave her ice cream on a scale of one to ten, and she said, "I give it I LOVE IT!"

Our first hike of the trip was the short 1.8-mile Sol Duc waterfall trail on Friday, July 8.

Tiny posed for birthday pictures.

Six years old looks good on this girl.

We decided to wait to backpack until Sunday, and we stayed that Friday night in Port Angeles, Washington at a Super Eight with a cat named Dennis. It took about an hour to check in, and they didn't have the room we'd booked (two queens) available. Sort of a nightmare. After we checked in, we went out for dinner and then went for more ice cream, so Tiny got to double up on the birthday treat.

The girls had to sleep together on a little rollaway.

But they loved the motel and wanted to go back later in the trip because of Dennis, the adopted cat.

Saturday we did a six-mile round-trip hike on Silver Lake Way Trail. Jim gave it a D grade because there were no views and no payoff, but that may partly be due to the intensely foggy weather that day.

The girls beautified as they hiked.

Everyone zonked out when we started driving.

We camped at a remote site in a forest that night.
