First week of July 2022 - Mostly Tiny's Early Birthday Festivities

We celebrated Tiny's sixth birthday a week early, on Friday, July 1, because we were going to be in Oregon on the eighth. I had an old yellow cake mix I wanted to use up, but I was concerned when I tasted the batter.

So a bake-off was born - box cake versus a homemade recipe I'd wanted to try. The bummer was that the homemade cake recipe called for almond extract. I debated omitting it, but I thought maybe it would add something without making the cake taste like almond. I was wrong. The box cake tasted fine cooked, and the almond was very apparent in the other although the cake seemed quite nice otherwise. Voters were split on which was better. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

We had the Karners, Oddous, and Cikaneks over. They enjoyed some water balloons.

Our rendition of "Happy Birthday" was one of the worst I've ever heard.

Tiny wanted a unicorn piƱata, which worked out perfectly because we had bought one for her previous birthday and forgotten to use it.

Rebecca's face in the background kills me on this one.

Derrick held up the maimed uni so the kids could finish it off.

Alina Karner wore the unicorn remains like an incredible headdress and killed with her posing.

The girls used water balloons to write on the wall.

That Sunday Tiny lost another tooth.

She opened a special present from Tutu.

That night, I peeked in on the girls and found this deeply disturbing and inexplicable sight.

Ever worked on her long list of treat dreams.

Wednesday, July 6, Tiny opened the rest of her presents before we left on our road trip.

Tiny at six... First, for the record, she has many great nicknames (besides Tiny) - Tater Tot, T.Tot, Tuh Tuh Tuh, Bubba, Bub, Bubs, Chubby Bubby, Chubbers, Bubbers, Booze, Boozy, Boozehound, Chugalug (because of her tendency to drink way too much water at all the wrong times), Chugs, Chuggy, Tines, Face (because those cheeks and that face!). Helen also continues to be widely used. Helenor, Baby Helen, etc. I think it's funny when people ask the girls' nicknames, as if they have one apiece.

Tiny is extraordinary. She brings such joy to our family. I think I say this every year, but it continues to be true. She is incredibly loving and compassionate. She knows whenever one of us is sad and immediately goes to hug and love us. She takes our constant physical affection like a champ. I don't think any child has ever been loved on so much. She's so good to squeeze, and she accepts it. I pinch her cheeks constantly, which I think would be super irritating and possibly painful, but she has never once complained or tried to make me stop. I just can't help myself. She likes tacos, grilled cheese, baked oatmeal, and anything treaty, although she has gotten better about fruits and veggies, too. Whenever I make a dessert and let her try it, she says dramatically, as soon as the food hits her mouth, "I love it!" She loves to read, and she loves to climb trees, rocks, and whatever else she can find. She also likes to dance (ballet/interpretive style). She overexplains everything, and it's cute. She is simply the best. P.S. Tiny still loves to eat her snot. She's been doing it for years, and she is doing it as I write this on 11/16/23. I'm afraid it's going to be a lifelong habit.
