Wanna fight? |
Some of us jumped from the rocks into the water. I am looking on after Jim threw Tristan into Christian's waiting arms:
On Sunday after church, we went back to our respective residences to nap. Instead of sleeping, however, Jim and I spent some time making Little Girl screech/squawk (her new favorite sound) and laugh so we could videotape it.
It was so funny how she'd open her mouth and flinch every time Jim came in for a kiss and how she'd sometimes do it preemptively. He started calling her "kitty cat," which quickly became "cutie cat."
The Russian dance:
We also bathed Dean, and Jim had the hairstyling honors, as usual. He really wanted to impress Bernie and Shandie with her hair. I think he did.
That evening we tried to go up to the Pali lookout, but the weather was stormy. We ended up going to the Round Top lookout instead. It was a beautiful drive and a beautiful view at the top.I loved how Tristan threw his arm protectively around Betsy for their photos.
And then I loved this face he made:
We went back to Bernie and Shandie's to hang out and eat cookies. Shandie held Everdeen because she hadn't yet had a chance to. Pod held Everdeen so he could say he did.
Monday morning, we found a restaurant near our hotel for breakfast, and then we walked down to Waikiki beach via the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The beach was gorgeous, and the Royal Hawaiian, though hideous on the outside, is a cool old building.
Note the little hairband. Jim violently resists all efforts to put girly accessories on Dean, but I got this one by him. |
On the way back to the hotel, we realized the little one had passed out, slumped over my arm.
We gathered all our luggage and dragged it down to Ala Wai Boulevard, where we had parked the night before. The car was not there, having been towed because of street sweeping. Pod and Jim had both parked there earlier in the trip and had read the signs and relayed the information to Mamo and me. But when we parked on Sunday night, nobody remembered the street sweeping schedule or thought to check the signs. So where the night before there had been rejoicing because we found a spot on the street, there was now despair. We saved $17 in hotel parking in order to pay a $50 ticket, a $150-ish fee to get our rental car back from the towing company, and cab fare to get there. And we spent the extra 45 minutes we were planning to use to go to the Pali retrieving the car. Pretty funny. The Pali will have to wait till we return.
It was great to see the fam and a little bit of O'ahu. We look forward to returning soon. Dean was wonderful on the plane, and we are confident she is going to be an excellent traveler.

So much love in this post. Makes me homesick real bad. Love Dean's hair, love the babes, want to see everyone. Love that pod held dean to say he did.
Sad about the towing. I had my car towed in Philadelphia once, and now every time I park on the street I am secretly filled with anxiety.
'Twas a fun visit -- except for the last part. So glad we had extra time when we headed for the car!
