Easter

Easter fell on general conference weekend this year. Maggie Long, who's been serving in the nursery with me at church, organized a potluck/Easter egg hunt at a park on base on Saturday, April 1 during the priesthood session. It was cold but fun. The kids:

Sunday morning, Ever and Wren (mainly Ever) were excited to check out their baskets. They both got candy, jeans, and jean jackets, and Wren got a couple other articles of clothing. Tiny got some candy.

Ever showed Tiny the contents of her basket.

We had some sort of special breakfast (as we did Saturday morning because conference weekend!). Wrenzy put on a new romper from the Easter Bunny, and the littles did some reading on the coffee table.

For the first time in my life, I made a proper Easter dinner: ham, rolls, cheesy potatoes, asparagus, and carrot cake. I had invited the Cikaneks to help us eat it and was pleased that they had no Easter plans. I prepared as much as I could in advance. I did the carrot cake early and was proud of it, despite its lopsidedness.

I put the potatoes together the day before and baked them Easter afternoon. Easter morning I spent a lot of time making a million rolls. The biggers attacked the bread dough remnants in the mixer.

Ever showed us a leprechaun head she'd made at school in March.

Scott had to go on a trip last minute (he's a pilot), so his mom, Brenda, came to dinner in his stead. (She always flies in to help Rebecca with the kids when Scott goes out of town.) The table was very unfancy, with a too-short tablecloth and wrinkled napkins. I was a little embarrassed, particularly in front of Brenda who no doubt knows better, but I have a hard enough time getting food on the table; I don't know when I'll acquire the time and talent to make the table look nice. Anyway, I thought the food turned out well. We had a lot of leftovers, but Rebecca and Brenda took some home, and I froze the rest of the ham to use in soup. I also froze unbaked and baked rolls and was happy to have those extras.

I'd planned to provide the eggs for the hunt. Rebecca also had some ready to go, though, so we used hers. The kids had fun ...

... although there was a little fighting (Wrenzy's saying, "Hey!").

Wrenzy modeled her new outfit:

That face!

It was a nice Easter, and it was fun to share it with friends. Rebecca and I voted to make it an annual thing.

So nice to have friends to do holidays with (if, for the time being, that friend cannot be me). Well done on the food. And Wrenzy's face, indeed.
