Last up for May 2021 was Memorial Day weekend in Big Bear. We took Ever's friend Ella Rondo with us this time. These were working weekends, so the girls had to entertain themselves most of the time. It was not the most exciting for them.
Berry spent some time Sunday afternoon blowing through Magic Tree House books.
We went down to the lake before sunset. The littles took off running upon arrival.
Ella climbed a tree.
Ever started up it, too, but got injured.
There was rock throwing and duck watching.
Jim took Monday morning off from renovation work so we could hike Castle Rock. We started hiking at 7:20 A.M., but it wasn't early enough to beat the heat. It was a really warm day, and the Kringels are no good at hiking in heat. We ended up not going all the way to Castle Rock; we probably went about 2/3 of the way and just spent a while exploring and enjoying the boulders.
Jim introduced the girls to the fun of throwing big rocks off high places, a favorite pastime of the young men.
We hit Cafe Crepe after the hike and learned that the eleven o'clock hour on Memorial Day is the absolute worst time to try to crepe it up. We waited about an hour and a half for our crepes (and then demolished them in no time flat). It was RIDICULOUS, and I vowed never to go back. (But Jim can't be stopped.)
Back at the cabin, the girls spent some time Betsy Rossing in the hot tub.
