Hawaii: Christmas Day (Gifts and Hapuna)

The wild turkeys in Waimea are out of control. They often hang out in flocks of 20 or more, I think Mamo said. They spread their tails and just stand there posing. Then they turn slowly and give you another view. A bunch of them gave us a good show Christmas morning. I found it fascinating.

The back view:

Ever slept in a bit that morning. When she woke, we did her and Wren's stockings. The Frozen Band-Aids were a hit:

Wren got baby food and diaper cream in her stocking. Ever asked later why she didn't get any toys. I told her maybe Santa knew Wren didn't really need any toys because she can use all of Ever's old ones.

We wanted to get to Hapuna before the crowds, so we headed down after stockings. Ever didn't care about waiting to open the rest of the presents, which was nice. We didn't end up getting out the door very early, but the beach wasn't too crowded. Jim took Ever in the ocean while I relaxed on the beach.

When Coco took this picture, I'd forgotten I'd put on Wrenzo's bib. The incredible length of my head may be even more disturbing than the bib, though:

Coco and Dun Dun did a little snorkeling but said it wasn't so great.

I wanted to hit the blowhole. When I was a kid, the blowhole seemed gigantic. We would jump in from the side when the water got high, and the whole family would be in at the same time. Now it seems tiny and crowded, and I don't understand how we all fit and had room to jump in and swim around. Anyway, I would have been a little nervous about taking Ever in, but Coco felt confident enough to do it. Pod and I got in with them. Pod tried to get sucked under the rocks when the water went down and he lost his footing. Things got a little scary for a while. Bags wanted to help but was struggling to keep Ever safe and above water. In fact, she lost her footing and ended up banging one foot so badly she later wondered if it might be broken. Turns out the blowhole can be pretty exciting if you're not holding on. This was during a less-exciting part:

After the rest of us got out, Jim jumped in briefly. I was glad he got to experience that little spot I enjoyed so much growing up.

I went for one last dip in the ocean with Bags and Ever before we left the beach. I forget how much I love swimming in the ocean. It was nice.

Wrenzo fell asleep in the car and continued the nap at home:

We all cleaned up and then got back to the presents. Ever was good at fetching and delivering them.

Wrenzo played with her Desitin:

Ever modeled her new dress-up clothes:

We all posed in the aftermath:

Then it was on to dinner prep. Ever was a good helper but still found some time to work on her gingerbread house:

Can you tell Jim was cold?:

Dinner was delightful - all except the main dish, a smoked turkey gifted to Pod by the new Texan he hired. The smoke flavor was so strong that Mamo declared it inedible. Dustin and Pod tried to pretend they'd eat the leftovers, but I'm sure most of it got tossed. Sad. In any case, turkey dinner is more about the side dishes anyway, right?

So much wonderfulness. What a lovely Christmas. I love Hapuna so much and am so sad we didn't swim more (how is it possible that I feel that way?) Ever is so incredibly sweet, patient, and happy. I don't understand.
